Missing by Caroline EnglandSusie watched as Rowan clung to the steering wheel of the model fire engine on the merry-go-ground. He didn’t let go to wave at her as the other little children did to their parents. He still had that worried look on his face which she had learnt to accept – he would relax in time, grow more confident, she was sure. She listened to the crackly over-loud music of the Birdie Song blasting from the speakers and wondered how many of the young people here with children would know it. She had always loved fairs and still experienced the stirrings of excitement at the smell of the onions from the hot-dog stands and loved losing herself in the throng of the crowds. She had so wanted to bring Rowan here to share that feeling with him. She had waited so long for a child. And at last here he was. Here they were together. Click here for the full story |

It eats exclusively softwood (pine), and when a client recently brought me a specimen worm in a jam-jar, she included a piece of wood for the journey. Just in case it got hungry! The importance of dental hygiene in our petsDental disease affects up to 80% of pets over the age of three and there can be serious consequences of poor dental health. Dogs start out with 28 baby teeth, Cats with 26. By 6 months the baby teeth fall out and are replaced by permanent teeth, 42 in dogs and 30 in cats. If the baby teeth don’t fall, the permanent teeth erupt underneath leading to problems, increased tartar, gingival irritation and bad bite.
Start caring for your pet’s teeth as early as possible. Click here for the full story |

When you need to see your VetAs your dog grows older it goes through a number of changes like reduced activity or a change in eating habits but you may not always know what’s normal and what isn’t. So how do you know that your dog’s change in appetite isn’t due to a more serious problem and not just because his sense of smell is lessened due to old age? Click here for the full story |
Please support PAWS animal rescueWe are currently preparing to produce our 2009 calendar. The calendar is an annual fundraiser, usually we just feature businesses but this year we have decided to make it more interesting by featuring people’s beloved pets (not necessarily animals rescued from PAWS) as it will make for a cuter calendar. As it is to raise very much needed funds we are asking for donations of just 30 euros for one space and 50 euros for two spaces. They can be in the month of your choice, you will receive one free calendar for every picture (we can also put some personal words in too if you like). Alternatively you can support us by buying a calendar. They will be sold for only 5euros each, please pre order yours now to help us with production costs. Costa Blanca Stage November 2008 by Benny DavisThere is a strong smell of pantomime on its way. No it’s not Puss’s Boots or Humpty Dumpty past his sell-by date, it is the fun buzz that always accompanies actors when they get the opportunity to dress in outrageous costumes, talk in funny voices and slap their thighs when delivering lines like, “…all this way and still no Dick.” Innuendos and slapstick galore, it’s very very British - and we love it. *Medieval Market in Alcàsser*Alcàsser, a small town just south of Valencia, will have another try at holding its annual Medieval Market on 7, 8 and 9 November - the one scheduled for October was stopped by heavy rain. Amata, the regional craft association, will be in charge and has invited a glassblower and a blacksmith, a group of musicians playing medieval music and an acrobatic couple who tumble, juggle, walk on stilts and play with fire. There are also six workshops for the children, and for the very young there is a children's theatre. Oh, and of course there are some 35 stalls with lovely craftwork - well, after all, Amata is a craft association. Click here for the full story |
