Planning Works within the Law the Spanish wayOne of the fundamental difficulties encountered by expats is their ignorance of Spanish Planning Laws and the belief that they either do not apply or do not exist. Even the most minor works may need a licence. Researching your project may be the most useful time spent. Click here for the full story |
Mums in SpainI am a mum of a 20 month old son. Originally from the Channel Islands, I moved here 12 years ago with my then boyfriend. We went on to get married here in Spain and have our first child here. At the start of 2006 I found out I was pregnant. Despite having lived here for so long the prospect of pregnancy, birth and beyond was pretty daunting as this was still a “foreign country” to me on many levels. I was desperate to get information from other expats who had been through the experience. I didn’t have any friends with young children and I found it nearly impossible to gather any recent reports of what giving birth in Spain was really like, even with the aid of the internet. Humanitarian Aid NewsletterOn the 29th March 1996 my anxiously awaited departure date for Bosnia arrived, accompanied by 2 Hereford Members of HA we set off to rendezvous with the rest of the team who hailed from Wales.
I was then transferred to the MAN, (this never fails to amuse me) but it is the make of the lorry I was destined to drive. for the remainder of the trip, having been introduced to my new travelling companions namely Ian Preece and Mike Watkins, I submitted a small request to my new acquaintances, which would not be appropriate in print, this met with reciprocal mirth and the Dream team was born, so with patience and a sense of humour, we set off, I mention these two commodities at the outset, because they were constantly exercised. Kevin Thornton N.S.S.M.T. Physical Therapist answers your questions JuneJanet from Orihuela -Costa
Dear Kevin
I am a 30 yr old woman, and reasonably fit, but over the past 2 years I have had a constant pain in my leg, not an acute pain but very much a dull ache. It starts in my buttocks through my thigh and can sometimes go down to my big toe. I haven’t any back pain with this pain, but lately if I sit for a period of time it seems to aggravate it, I have been to my G.P and was given anti-Inflammatory medicine but this didn’t help my pain. I have started some stretching exercises which I find helps but only for a short period of time then its back to square one. I even tried sitting on a tennis ball on the affected side of the leg, (one my friends told me that this might help) It helps, but yet again only for a short period of time. Please Kevin can you give me your opinion on this and the best way to get rid of it and get out of pain.
Regards. Janet. Click here for the full story |

Boundless bordersWithout doubt arts and crafts have always been big business and one of the most popular and long lived is the ancient art of Parchment Craft which is thought to have originated in Latin America centuries ago. Parchment was originally made in the town of Pergamum in Turkey as a substitute for papyrus. Parchment Craft was used in Spanish Cloisters to decorate holy tracts and for bookbinding and in fact to this day the art of Parchment Craft is still taught in convent schools and throughout South America.
