Also drive slowly in town as holiday makers seem to launch themselves off the pavements for no apparent reason other than to test the nerves of the unsuspecting driver. From Tony Morris, Monte Pego: Dear Benny: Like today’s misuse of the word Star, which is attributed to any foul mouthed, talentless, incomprehensible individual who washes their dirty linen in front of a TV camera, the term journalist is heading down a similar path. Badly constructed writing, poor spelling, grammatical errors, questionable accuracy and honesty of copy content, plus a total misuse of the English language, are evident in every aspect of today’s media.
So what is happening? Why is this once highly respected profession slowly sinking to gutter level? Why can’t I read a local paper without questioning the credibility of restaurant and theatre reviews, the reliability of local reporting or the authenticity of international news? Let face it, if papers constantly get something simple like the TV listings wrong - which is often - what does it say for the rest of the content? I am not a highly educated person, nor am I a word nerd, just a person brought up to believe that if our language was good enough for Shakespeare to communicate to the world, it must have something going for it.
